May 25, 2008: Big Friggin' Update!
If you're a regular visitor to our LiveJournal community,
you know I've been much better about updating that site than this one, and that there have been a whole honkin'
load of news items since Weyrfest.org was last updated on January 1.
My bad.
In recompense, I offer you one big comprehensive update I hope will bring us all up to speed.
BIG ITEM NUMBER ONE: Anne McCaffrey is attending Weyrfest this year! Anne informed us back in February
that she'd be joining us "come hell, high water or hurricane"—and yes, those are her words, not mine. We're thrilled to
have her, and we know y'all will be, too!
BIG ITEM NUMBER TWO: Elizabeth Ann Scarborough will also return as a guest! That's right: the multi-talented
coauthor of the Acorna and Petaybee series, as well as her own Nebula-winning novel The
Healer's War, will help fill out our panel schedule this year. We haven't seen Ann in some time, so we're
looking forward to having her back.
BIG ITEM NUMBER THREE: We need staff! We've got a couple of slots left available to fill this year, and
so we're taking applications from folks willing to give us 20 hours of their weekend.
The full details are available
on our LJ community, so be sure to give that post a look if this seems like it's up your alley.
BIG ITEM NUMBER FOUR: CALLING ALL ARTISTS! In a bid to fill up some of our wall space with the fruits of
YOUR imaginations, we're collecting artwork for general display AND holding Weyrfest's first annual art contest! This is
something this director's been wanting to do for a long time, and I'm really stoked about it—so check out
the details if you want a chance
to win some great prizes.
Not-As-Big-Item: Someday, we'll have a redesigned website. At the moment, I'm doing some Adobe Illustrator work on
our logo, which will make it friendlier to a number of web and print applications, and I may end up conscripting
some poor soul to help me out with the site. Maybe. Someday. Don't count on it.
And finally, staff, guest, and panel page updates are on the way. As usual, the best and fastest way to get updates
is through our LJ site (which is RSS enabled, for those of you who want news as soon as it's available). Please feel
free to start posts there with your thoughts, suggestions, and ideas! This is your track, so get involved!
Now get those artistic masterpieces coming!

and man, there ain't nothin' funny about it.
